About Investing in Missouri
Hello, I’m Secretary of State John R. Ashcroft.
My office regulates the sale of investments and investment professionals in the state of Missouri. My office also investigates complaints filed by Missouri residents. All too often my staff see high risk, fraudulent schemes targeted to defraud Missouri investors, leaving them financially devastated. Just because someone buys you free breakfast, lunch and dinner doesn’t mean you have to buy what they are selling. You have heard this said before-“If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is”
The Investor Protection Hotline (800-721-7996) has been established for making inquiries about broker-dealers, agents, investment advisers, investment adviser representatives, or for reporting complaints.
Since I assumed office, we have added the Vulnerable Citizens Services Unit to protect investors, especially vulnerable Missourians, which is a top priority for my staff. If you suspect that you or a loved one have been victimized then I encourage you to contact the Vulnerable Citizens Services Hotline (855-653-7300).
Investors who understand the risks of investing are less likely to be vulnerable to financial exploitation and fraud. Missourians should obtain information about the people seeking their hard-earned money, and know what you are buying.
