EXECUTIVE ORDER
09-24

WHEREAS, patients throughout the State of Missouri receive exemplary medical care from Missouri hospitals and health care providers; and

WHEREAS, there are concerns that health insurance companies are not providing timely reimbursement to Missouri hospitals and health care providers for services provided to Missourians; and

WHEREAS, the failure of health insurance companies to make timely payments could significantly compromise the ability of Missouri hospitals and health care providers to provide quality medical care to Missourians; and

WHEREAS, the State of Missouri is committed to ensuring that Missouri hospitals and health care providers are promptly paid by health insurance companies for services provided and that Missourians continue to receive superior medical care.

NOW THEREFORE, I, JEREMIAH W. (JAY) NIXON, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the constitution and laws of the State of Missouri do hereby create the Prompt Pay for a Healthy Missouri Project ("Project") to examine issues relating to the timely reimbursement of Missouri hospitals and health care providers by health insurance companies.

The Director of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration is appointed Project Director and will have supervisory authority over all aspects of the Project. The Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration will provide administrative support to the Project.

The Directors of other executive branch departments will provide assistance to this project as requested by the Project Director.

The Project Director shall issue a report to the Governor by December 31, 2009.

The Project will terminate on December 31, 2009 unless extended by subsequent Executive Order.
