EXECUTIVE ORDER
93-41

WHEREAS, many individuals and businesses have prudently prepared for unforeseen disasters and events by procuring insurance; and

WHEREAS, continued coverage of some individuals and businesses may be in jeopardy due to the recent flooding; and

WHEREAS, insurance coverage is a prerequisite for personal and economic stability;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mel Carnahan, Governor of the State of Missouri, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Missouri, including Chapter 44, RSMo, do hereby order that:

  1. No insurance company may cancel or refuse to renew any insurance contract or policy providing coverage of real or personal property located in a one hundred year flood plain.
  2. Any insurance company which, before the date of this Executive Order and after the date of the emergency proclamation, cancelled or refused to renew any such insurance contract of policy, shall offer to reinstate such insurance contract or policy effective the date of this order, for a duration not less than the cancelled or non-renewed insurance contract or policy.
  3. This Order shall remain in effect for the duration of the flood emergency.
