WHEREAS, the State of Missouri serves a vital role in maintaining a strong national defense; and

WHEREAS, military installations in the State of Missouri are among the most important within the U.S. Department of Defense; and

WHEREAS, active and retired military personnel, civilian employees of the U.S. Department of Defense, and their families are an important element of Missouri communities; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Missouri are proud of these vital defense installations and the dedicated and loyal men and women who comprise the military community in our state.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOHN ASHCROFT, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI, pursuant to the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Missouri, do hereby establish the Missouri Military Advisory Commission, whose purpose shall be to foster communication and cooperation between state agencies and federal military commands and activities on matters of mutual interest. The Commission is assigned to the Office of the Governor, shall be chaired by a member of my personal staff, and shall consist of such heads of Missouri Executive Departments and agencies as I may from time to time designate, and Commanders, or their designees, of selected federal military installations and activities located in the state. Participation of federal personnel in the work of the Commission will be voluntary and in accord with federal rules and regulations. Administrative and staff support for the Commission shall be provided by the Missouri Department of Public Safety. The Commission shall meet twice each calendar year, or more often if required, at a time and place selected by the chairman. No member of the Commission shall receive any compensation for service on the Commission. Travel and per diem expenses, if any, shall be borne by the individual or the agency represented.
