EXECUTIVE ORDER
80-24

WHEREAS, a heat storm has been determined to exist in the State of Missouri and

WHEREAS, that storm is of such major proportions that a state of emergency has been declared to exist by Executive Order 80-23, and

WHEREAS, during this state of emergency the threat of catastrophe caused by fire endangers the public health, safety and welfare,

NOW THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH P. TEASDALE, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI, do hereby declare and direct the following:

  1. No person shall build, maintain or use any open fire or campfire except in barbeque grills, permanent stoves or fireplaces in developed recreational sites or residential property. All agencies having jurisdiction over such lands shall act to enforce this restriction.
  2. Local governments are requested to strictly enforce prohibitions against open burning within their jurisdiction.
  3. Residents of the State of Missouri are requested to refrain from open burning of fence rows, ravines and other areas not essential to the preservation of crops. Local police and fire agencies are requested to alert persons causing such fires of the risk of damage by fire that such burning causes during this period.

This order shall take effect immediately and shall remain in effect until terminated by order of the Governor.
