WOC Catalog: Wolfner Owned Cassettes

Classic Radio Plays, Dramatizations and Other Special Items

Introduction

Your first impression of this catalog might be, “What is a WOC, and why would I want one?” WOC’s are books on cassette that Wolfner Library purchases from commercial sources or receives from other Libraries for the Blind and Physically Handicapped for the enjoyment of our patrons. These are titles that are usually not selected for production by the National Library Service, or special selections such as dramatizations, classic radio programs, and items of special interest to Missourians. The thing that makes these cassettes different from the others in our collection is the fact that they are recorded at 1 7/8 speed rather than 15/16.

These cassettes will play on a regular commercially purchased cassette player, or on your Standard C-1 cassette machine if you set the speed selector switch to 1 7/8. This switch is located on the right hand side of the machine below the Variable Speed Control and above the Side Selector Switch. Unfortunately, these cassettes will not play on the E-1 Easy cassette machine. We are not able to reproduce copies of these titles, so please be patient when you place your order. Some of the more popular titles may have a long waiting list, so it is especially important to return your WOC’s on time.

It has been an honor and a privilege creating this WOC catalog for you. I had great fun listening to the old radio shows, and I am sure you will, too. My parents and grandparents had told me stories of how great these old shows were, so I was particularly interested to see if they were right. Let me assure you, they were! For those of you who are old enough to remember when these shows were originally broadcast, they should bring back some great memories for you. As for the rest of us, we can now enjoy this wonderful slice of Americana right along with you.
