Kander and State Employees to Donate Blood with American Red Cross
Jefferson City, Mo. — Secretary of State Jason Kander will join state employees making blood donations on Monday, August 5, for the American Red Cross. At a blood drive in the secretary of state’s office, Kander, blood type A-, will donate a pint of blood to the disaster relief organization’s emergency blood supply for hospitals.
"Having served in Afghanistan, I know how vital the blood supply can be for anybody in an emergency situation," Kander said. "I’m glad I’m able to join many of the employees from my office in stepping up and doing our part to help save lives."
The American Red Cross reports an urgent need for donations with blood type O-, A- and B- in Missouri. Historically, blood supplies fall to a low during summer months, according to the AABB, an organization representing blood banks throughout the country. The American Red Cross states that each pint of donated blood can save up to three lives. State employees and other donors will contribute up to 40 pints in the Monday drive.
