Show Me The World Resource-Sharing
“Show Me The World” is a program to promote resource-sharing for public libraries in Missouri. Through contracts and grants, the State Library provides the following services to tax-supported public libraries:
FirstSearch & WorldCat.org:
Patrons and library staff can use the FirstSearch interface to OCLC’s WorldCat database to locate books and other library materials held by other libraries.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL):
Library staff can place requests to borrow books from another library. In some libraries, patrons can place requests directly from FirstSearch
The State Library uses LSTA funds to pay for 100% of the licenses for all public libraries in Missouri to use the FirstSearch software and WorldCat, and also pays 85% of the cost for all public libraries in Missouri to use the OCLC ILL service. Libraries using the ILL service pay a small fee for “access charges” directly to OCLC.
Get Connected Courier Service:
Using LSTA grant funds, the Mid-America Library Alliance/KCMLIN is continuing to promote resource-sharing among Missouri public libraries by offering its courier service for ILL. In fiscal year 2014, there are 114 public libraries participating with two stops per week paid for by the grant. Libraries can add more stops up to a total of five by using local funds. Questions about this service should be directed to Susan Burton from MALA/KCMLIN at (816) 521-7267.
“Missouri Evergreen” Resource-Sharing Consortium:
Patrons at Missouri Evergreen member libraries can search for materials held at other member libraries and place holds on them as if the other library was a branch of their own, without going through their interlibrary loan department. Beginning in fiscal year 2013, the State Library contracted with MOBIUS, a non-profit library organization, to host and manage an Evergreen-based integrated library system for the public libraries of Missouri. The Missouri State Library will fund migration costs and MOBIUS staffing for Missouri Evergreen through FY 2016. MOBIUS will assist each library with all aspects of implementation and migration to the Evergreen system and provide ongoing support.
