Commissions Division

A primary responsibility of the Commissions division involves authenticating official acts of the governor. Each year, the division affixes the Great Seal of the State of Missouri to approximately 35,000 documents, which include: all commissions of state and county elected officials; appointments made by the governor to fill vacancies in elected offices; boards and commissions; proclamations and executive orders issued by the governor; extraditions, commutations of sentence and restorations of citizenship.

The Secretary of State also appoints and commissions notaries public. The oath of office, official signature of each notary public and the official bond are maintained by the Commissions division. The division also processes facsimile signature filings.
