Com. in chief

Sept 23, 1838

Liberty Sept:23rd. 1838

To His Excellency,

The Commander in Chief

Sir, Your order through

the Adjutant General of 15th inst: was received

on the 22nd inst- Your Excellency will percieve

from a former report, that an armed force

was ordered out under my command from

the Militia of the 3rd Div: to put down in:

:surrection, supposed to exist in the Counties of

Caldwell & Davis, and to assist the Civil of:

:ficerz in those Counties to bring offenderz

to trial, and otherwise enforce the lawz

I now again inform your Excellency that

all offenderz against the lawz in those

Countiez, against whom procesz was issued, &

particularly the persons in the writ named,

issued by William Dryden, a Justice of the peace

for Daviesz County , or at least as many of them

as were found in the County of Daviesz were

brought before a Court of enquiry & recognized

to appear at the Circuit Court- And Brigadier

Genl Parks was left in said County of Daviesz with

two companies of fifty men each for the purpose

of enforcing the laws under the direction of the

Civil officerz, and from the facts, as far az

as I could learn them, one hundred men were

amply sufficient for all purposez of enforcing

law, keeping down insurrection. &c

I have the honor &c

D. R. Atchison
