County Map of Missouri


The map below indicates current boundary lines for Missouri's 114 counties. Five counties were organized before Missouri became a state: Cape Girardeau, New Madrid, St. Charles, St. Louis, and Ste. Genevieve. Other counties were organized in the years before the Civil War.
Many counties were formed out of "parent" counties. In researching county records, it is helpful to know when a county was organized and what the parent counties were. It may be necessary to look at records of the parent county to trace genealogy.
