Missouri County History Project
The Missouri County History project, sponsored by the Missouri State Library, has gathered county histories from all over the state. There are currently 115 volumes in this collection. Where counties are not covered specifically, there is usually some regional coverage. Contributing institutions include Bollinger County Library; Conception Abbey and Seminary Library; Jefferson College Library; Missouri Science and Technology University; Missouri Southern State University – George A. Spiva Library; Missouri State Library; Missouri University of Science and Technology – Curtis Laws Wilson Library; Springfield-Greene County Library; St. Charles Community College Library; State Historical Society of Missouri; Truman State University - Pickler Memorial Library; University of Central Missouri – James C. Kirkpatrick Library; University of Missouri-Columbia – Ellis Library Special Collections; University of Missouri-Kansas City – Miller Nichols Library Special Collections; University of Missouri-St. Louis – St. Louis Mercantile Library; University of Missouri-St. Louis – Thomas Jefferson Library; Washington University – Olin Library; and William Jewell College – Charles F. Curry Library.
The Missouri County History Project covers all of the state’s counties. Some of the volumes cover several neighboring counties within one text. The counties Carter, Christian, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Ripley, Shannon, and Stone in the Ozarks region are documented in the collection, but not in individual county histories.
Rights and Reproductions
The majority of these volumes are in the public domain. Permission for the use of copyrighted materials was provided by a variety of institutions. The institutions that have the original text are identified in the document data included on the site. When an individual document is on the screen, the document data can be found by selecting document description from the view menu on the left of the screen and then clicking the “go” button. The bibliographic and ownership information will appear on the screen.
