Volunteer Services

"A civilization flourishes when people plant trees under whose shade they will never sit." –Greek Proverb

The Wolfner Library volunteer program offers opportunities for people willing to plant trees for others to enjoy. We record books for Missourians who cannot read those books in print. After a book is recorded and goes through a rigorous quality assurance process, it is put into our circulation system for our patrons to check out. The volunteers who work on the book may never know how many people listen to it, or how much they enjoy it. They simply have to trust that what they are doing is making life more enjoyable for others. If you are a person who understands how much books enrich our lives, you may want to be involved in our recording program.

Our recording booth is in the library in Jefferson City, so the recording has to be done here. An audition is required for those people who want to read books. However, there are three people involved in the recording process: a narrator, a monitor, and a reviewer. All three are essential in the production of a book. Those who do not want to read can still be involved by working as a monitor or reviewer.
