Kander Tours Whiteman Air Force Base to Discuss Services his Office Provides to Veterans and Members of the Military
Jefferson City, Mo. —Secretary of State Jason Kander toured Whiteman Air Force Base yesterday to meet with top military officials stationed at the base and gather information on the needs of Missouri’s veterans and active duty military personnel.
"As a veteran of the United States Army, I hope to increase the services my office can provide to Missouri’s veterans, active duty service members and Guard personnel," Kander said. "By meeting with officials at Whiteman and throughout Missouri, I hope to raise awareness in the military community of the services my office provides, and if necessary, develop initiatives to better serve these brave men and women."
Secretary Kander met with Brigadier General Thomas Bussiere to discuss the needs of veterans, active duty and reserve forces. Kander and Whiteman officials also addressed methods of protecting enlisted members of the military from financial predators and investment scams, as well as the importance and accessibility of military voting.
"After visiting Whiteman and meeting with the excellent personnel stationed there, it is clear to me that my office is well-positioned to help veterans and active duty military vote in each election and protect themselves from becoming victims of investment scams," Kander said. "I would like to thank the leadership of Whiteman for their hospitality, and I look forward to working together to better serve Missouri’s military community."
Whiteman Air Force Base was established in 1942 and is named for 2nd Lieutenant George Allison Whiteman, the first member of the United States armed forces to die at Pearl Harbor in aerial combat in World War II. Whiteman is home of the B2 Bomb-flying wing, the Missouri Air National Guard's 131st Bomb Wing, the Air Force Reserve Command's 442nd Fighter Wing and the Missouri Army National Guard's 1/135th Aviation Battalion.
