Kander Extends Nondiscrimination Protections to LGBT Employees
Jefferson City, MO – Secretary of State Jason Kander today announced revised office personnel policies, extending nondiscrimination protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees in the Secretary of State’s office.
“As a State Representative, I strongly supported the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act because Missourians should not be fired from their jobs, kicked out of restaurants or denied a place to live simply because of their sexual orientation,” Kander said. “Now as Secretary of State, I felt it was important that my employees were offered an inclusive and equitable workplace, which is why I have added protections proposed by the Missouri Nondiscrimination Act into our office policies. This is not only the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing for all employers to do to boost employee morale, increase retention and better compete for new talent.”
Kander granted greater protections for LGBT employees by strengthening the office’s nondiscrimination and workplace harassment policies. The updated policies safeguard against adverse actions taken on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The updated personnel policies take effect immediately.
